Played at the Sportscore Complex, Rockford, Il - July 4-6, 1997


Pool Play

Game One
Shockers 8 - Woodridge Wildcats 0

In their first game of the tourney the Shockers jumped on the Woodridge Wildcats early, scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the first inning. They were aided by 2 walks and a hit batter, but Cyndi Hatala and Natalie Miller contributed RBI singles. Suzie Ekaitis drove in the Shockers final run in the fourth with a triple.

Ami McQueary pitched a five inning complete game for the victory, giving up only 2 hits, and two walks, while striking out 6.

Game Two
Shockers 4 - Eau Claire GSA 1

Suzie Ekaitis drove in a pair of runs in the fifth inning, and Heather Gapinski also had an RBI in the fifth as the Shockers broke open a 1-1 game.

Danielle Garnett gave up only 1 unearned run as she pitched a seven inning complete game. She surrendered only 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 13.

Game Three
Shockers 7 - Strutters- V 3

In the top of the first the Shockers thumped the Strutters, sending 11 batters to the plate and scoring 7 runs. Casey Stephens was 2 for 2 in the inning with a single and a double. Casey also stole a base in the inning.

Becky Rhyne threw four innings, giving up 2 unearned runs on 5 hits, for the victory. Ami McQueary threw the final two innings, giving up 1 run on 3 hits.

Game Four
Shockers 7 - Tidal Waves 2

The Shockers never trailed in this game, scoring all 7 of their runs before the Tidal Waves could dent the plate in the fifth inning. The big inning for the Shockers was the fourth when they scored 4 times on 4 singles and a walk.

Ami McQueary pitched all seven innings, giving up 4 hits, 3 walks, and striking out 10.

Game Five
Shockers 3 - Sidekicks 0

The Shockers scored 1 in the third and 2 in the fourth in this victory over the Sidekicks. In the third Katie Rak led off with a triple and was singled home by Casey Stephens. In the fourth it was Jenny Linders turn to lead off with a triple. She scored on sac fly to left by Suzie Ekaitis that was dropped. Suzie was driven in later by Jorie Flores.

Danielle Garnett pitched the seven inning shut out. She allowed 2 hits, 1 walk, and struck out 7.

Game Six
Strutters - B 2 - Shockers 1

This loss stopped the Shockers winning streak at 5. The Shockers did not score until the seventh inning, when they were already trailing by 2 runs. The Shockers had their chances to break the game open but did not capitalize. They loaded the bases in the first inning, with no outs, and did not score. They managed only 1 run in the seventh after the first two hitters reached on a walk and a single and were sacrificed to second and third.

Ami McQueary took the tough loss, giving up 1 earned run, 4 hits, 0 walks, and striking out 4 over 7 innings.

Summary

This was the Shockers best finish in 1997, as they were in the top 4 out of 18 teams.
